Speakers for Winter session, 2010
Jan. 6,2010 Belinda Gergel - one of our newest Columbia City Council members will give us the good inside scoops on our home town.
Jan. 13 Robin Gorman can organize anything. She & her husband once ran Columbia Junior College, then she took on Still Hopes. She is now VP of Events on Cue,LLC. She'll help to whip us into shape and tell us things we don't know!
Jan. 20 Tom Webb,III calls himself a Rebel Poet. He's spellbound me with the tales he writes about battles of long ago and life in general. Yet, he sings, he plays piano, he yodels and in his spare time he mills grits & meal just to keep the past alive in Boykin, SC. Also, he LOVES to spread the word about that whacky Boykin Parade!
Jan. 27 Phillip Jones Yes, that name is familiar. He was our wonderful ventriloquist at our Shepherd's Center Christmas party but in his "day job" life, he's been a longtime photographer for SC Wildlife Magazine. He'll tell us what he has to go through to get some of those shots AND show us some. Also his Editor, David Lucas will join us too!
Feb. 3 Debra Bloom is Manager of the Local History Room at our downtown Richland County Library. She will enthrall us on what all she has down there & teach us to find treasures from our pasts. I like her. She rides her bike to work!!
Feb. 10 SC Rep. Joan Brady will leave our State House Chambers long enough to have lunch with us and tell us "What the heck's going on down there!"
Feb. 17 Mike Dawson runs The River Alliance. He is a retired Army colonel who now plays every day. He and his Girl Friday, Cara, will show and tell us about all the trails we can walk, run or skateboard along our rivers and canals. We might get wet that day!
Feb. 24 Rev. Paul Harmon & Rabbi Yossi Libowitz will present their unique "The Cap and the Collar." They come highly recommended by some of our members who have seen this. Paul is one of the pastors of Washington Street Methodist. They have a website if you want a preview.
March 3 Betty Myers and ...well, Charlie Fetner calls them her dingalings!! Our very own Shepherd's Center Handbell Choir will present "South Pacific" with a little singing and dancing from other of our members!! It will be GOOD!!
Computer Training - free for seniors, sponsored by Fast Forward, 3223 Devine St. 343-2577.
